The Fat Duck

Thanks to Trix and the girls Susanna and I were allowed to have a “tete à tete” together on Tuesday evening. Considering myself a foodie I often had heard about the Fat Duck Restaurant of Heston Blumental before and took this chance that we’re in the UK to reserve a table in this restaurant, which is considered by many sources as “Best Restaurant in the World” next to El Bully in Spain. Heston is one of this crazy guys who cooks not the way we know it but with tools normally found in a laboratory.

Although I and especially Susanna are more into real food then special effects, we still consider the dinner we enjoyed there as something very unique. We probably don’t have the urge to go there again soon, but the 15 course tasting menu was a very interesting ride. Find here of the probably most fascinating dish called “sound of the sea”, which was hide cockles, an oyster, and razor clams and seaweed on a bed of “sand” (made of tapoica and fried bits of eel).

There was only one slight problem with the whole experience, and that was me not planing enough time to get to the trainstation and buy the ticket. So we mist the train and spent afterwards more than an hour in trafic jam with a cab. Till we had reached the restaurant I did not only have the highest taxi bill ever but also a not very amused partner. Thankfully Susanna is the most forgiving person and the evening turned out well anyway.
